What is a Basket? A Basket is a collection of securities that you may want to continuously follow.
What is the difference between a Basket and a Watchlist? A Basket is simiiar to a Watchlist but created in a different way. Think of a Basket as a "Lite Watchlist" that can travel across the various tools and features of our program. The main difference between a Watchlist portfolio and a Basket is that a Watchlist Portfolio is designed to track positions and the performance of the portfolio over time. You can also assign alerts to the positions in a Watchlist.
How do I create a Basket?
First, click More. Then, select Baskets.
You can either create a Basket manually using the Add Basket button (1) or you can import a list of securities from a .csv file using the Import from CSV button (2).
Creating a Basket Manually
If you choose to create a Basket manually, you will see the below screen.
You would first want to name your Basket (1). Using a descriptive name here will help you distinguish between Baskets later, if you create multiple. Next, enter the tickers you wish to track (2). If you wish, you can also enter notes on any of the tickers (3). After you have entered everything, click Save (4) on the bottom to save your Basket.
Upload a Basket
If you are uploading a Basket from a saved file, after clicking Import from CSV, you will see a link that you can use to select your file. Please note, we can only upload .csv files. If your data is in Google Sheets, Excel, Numbers, etc.... you must convert it to a .csv in order to import it into TradeSmith Finance.
After you have selected your file, you will click Import & Preview.
You will then see the data from your source file. If you would like to deselect any of the rows, you can uncheck the box to the left (1). You may have columns in your source file that you do not want to include in your basket. Select a label for the columns you wish to import (2). Then click Next (3).
The final step is to save your imported data. You can choose to save to a New Basket, Existing Basket, New Portfolio or Existing Portfolio (1). If you choose a New Basket or New Portfolio, you must provide a name (2). Lastly, you would click the Finish and Import Data Button (3).
